The Man Behind The Cup

Paul Zammit began his business career in 1973 (Zammit Sales Pty Ltd) until 1984 when the company was purchased by Wattyl Paints Pty Ltd.

Rita Zammit is a co-director of Zammit Sales Marketing and Management as well as holding the dual position of Company Secretary. Rita has a life-long vocation for teaching and has taught and continues to teach High School students.

After qualifying as a teacher, Rita has gone on to attain several degrees including a B.A, B.Legs.S., Dip.Legal Prac., and Dip.Mod.Lang, all of which were obtained through part time and external study. Rita has a strong social conscience and has, over many years, willingly given of her time on a voluntary capacity to assist the less fortunate in our society and has served on numerous Committees and continues to do so, such as the NSW Premier’s Arts Committee, the Opera Foundation Committee, etc, and more recently serving as a Member of the Board of CoAsIt (the Italian Association of Assistance).

Despite a busy schedule, she has applied for and has been accepted to become a volunteer for Vision Australia.

In recognition of Rita’s many years’ volunteering, she was awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in the June 9, 2014 Queen’s Birthday Honours List for her services to the Italian-Australian community, to the Arts and Education and the community in general.


Zammit Sales Marketing and Management (trading as Zammit Promotional Products) was established in 1998 and has continued for more than 20 years.

Prior to the establishment of Zammit Sales and Marketing Management, Paul served as a Parliamentarian for a period of 15 years, 12 of which were as the NSW State Member for Burwood/Strathfield, after which he was elected to the National Parliament of Australia as the Federal Member for Lowe for a period of 3 years before returning to the business world.

On the 12th April 1983, Paul was elected as a Fellow of the Institute of Company Directors in Australia and he was subsequently admitted on the 1st of January 1990 as a Foundation Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, which continues to this day for an unbroken period of 30 + years.

Order of Australia Medal

Paul Zammit was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM), as announced in the Queen’s birthday 2020 Honours’ list and as approved by the Governor-General in his capacity as Chancellor of the Order Australia, with effect from the 8th June 2020.

Paul said: “I have always been of the view that we live in an extremely lucky country, that we are very fortunate to be Australians and that we should always do whatever we can to put something back into our community so as to express our ongoing gratitude in a tangible way”

“As many would know, my wife of 50 plus years, Rita, was awarded her own OAM six years ago and she has not diminished in any way her ongoing voluntary commitment to those who are marginalised and least advantaged in our society, and neither shall I.”

“I was honoured to have been appointed as a Knight of Magistral Grace (KMG) on the 13th June 2017 in the Order of Malta (in Australia), a Lay order dedicated to serving the sick, poor and needy in our society,” added Paul Zammit.


The Official Investiture Ceremony was held at Government House Sydney on the 25th of November 2020 at which Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC, Governor of New South Wales presented Paul Zammit with the insignia of his award.
